Over half of pet owners in the UK have purchased premium pet food or products over lockdown, according to online research carried out by Product of the Year.

Some 56% consumers in the poller’s online survey said they have bought more gourmet food for their pets in the last three months.

Furthermore, 22% of respondents said they have purchased a new item of clothing for their pet over this period, with around 11% of consumers buying pet tech products and health supplements, respectively.

Helga Slater, managing director of Product of the Year, said: “Every year, pet products win multiple awards.

“And every time these products come through the door, we are continually impressed with the calibre and the diverse ways in which they meet the wants and needs of the modern consumer.”

She added: “Our 2021 winners: Vanish Oxi Action Urine Destroyer Pet Expert and Sheba Fine Flakes in Gravy, demonstrate the level of innovation we’ve come to expect at Product of the Year.”
