Visa, MasterCard and American Express are increasing the limits for Contactless card payments from the 1st October 2015. The limit on Contactless payment will be £30 instead of £20.

Any Contactless terminals rented from Global Payments will be updated before the change comes into effect. Customers will automatically be able to pay with their Contactless card for sales up to £30.

The British Independent Retail Association (BIRA) said: “If you own your own Contactless terminals or rent them from a third party, you’ll need to contact your supplier to get them to upgrade your equipment.

“You will need to do this to ensure any Contactless payments are authorised and your customers can use their Contactless function.”
