Retail sales show promising increase for May

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released figures showing a 1.9 per cent year-on-year increase in sales in the retail sector for May – the highest level on record since 2003.

In addition, the increase from April to May of this year was 2.1 per cent for sales in the retail sector, with the biggest increase for the same period coming from the food sector, which saw a rise of 3.5 per cent.

This increase is an encouraging development, indicating a continuation of recovery for the UK’s economy.
