Billy + Margot lands investment from ‘Dragon’

After impressing the investors on television’s Dragon’s Den, Billy + Margot founder Marie Sawle accepted Deborah Meaden’s £60,000 offer for 40 per cent of her business.

Launched at Crufts this year, Billy + Margot offers a range of healthy and nutritious iced treats for dogs and was recently crowned ‘Dog Product of the Year’ at the UK’s largest pet trade show.

Marie Sawle said: “Our much-loved Labrador, Billy, gave me the inspiration to start my own business.

“He loved ice cream but as a nutritionist I realised the ingredients were potentially bad for his canine digestive system and decided to produce an iced treat for dogs with a special emphasis on health and nutrition. We’ve already started developing the range so there’s something healthy and tasty for dogs to enjoy throughout the year.”

Deborah Meaden added: “Marie seemed to sense that we have a shared view of the potential scale and commercial opportunity with this unique and nutritious canine product line. True to form, since I invested Marie has already developed a new range of Venison treats with many more product developments underway.”

Marie said of her investor: “It’s great to have someone who has such a wealth of business experience and who is able to channel this into succinct and constructive advice. Whenever we meet, Deborah always makes you feel that your business is the most important.”
