A new podcast has been launched for business owners in the pet industry, providing information on ways to promote their products and services in the media.
The Publicity for Pet Businesses podcast is aimed towards dog walkers, groomers, trainers, pet sitters, product makers and other individuals within the pet industry.
The podcast was launched during lockdown by freelance pet journalist and blogger Rachel Spencer.
She has worked in the media for 20 years, and wants to use the podcast to “encourage pet business owners to share their stories as there is so much interest in the human animal bond”.
It comes as the pet population has reportedly grown in lockdown, with animal charities like Dogs Trust reporting a 25% rise in adoptions and the Kennel Club noted a 53%surge in users of their ‘find a puppy’ tool.
This in turn has led to a higher demand for services and products within the pet industry, with owners reportedly ordering up to six items online each month for their pets.
Spencer said: “During lockdown many pet business owners, particularly the service providers, had to totally shut up shop. It’s been a really difficult time, but by implementing the advice on the podcast, they’ve been able to promote the services they’ve offered online.
“By raising awareness of their businesses, it’s meant that now restrictions are being eased, they have new clients waiting to use their services.”
She added: “The message for pet business owners is that through publicity, they can reach hundreds of thousands of people, even millions, who might be interested in what they offer.
“There’s a huge interest in the industry and the podcast episodes share actionable tips and the steps they can follow to approach editors and journalists.”
