Paleo Ridge, one of the UK’s leading producers of high-quality raw dog food, is celebrating a new environmental benchmark as 98% of the company’s packaging is now recyclable or compostable.
The group said a series of projects has supported the achievement, including the launch of new packaging for the Paleo Ridge Classic and DIY ranges last year, which saw several products switch from non-recyclable bags to recyclable boxes.
In addition, its new Classic Mini range is now packaged in fully recyclable pouches, making feeding raw “more convenient whilst also protecting the environment”.
Over the last three years, Paleo Ridge has converted an additional 9% of non-recyclable and non-compostable packaging to achieve this milestone. It said the “rapid improvement” represents a sustained effort to safeguard the environment and respond to consumer demands for eco-friendly product packaging.
It has also made improvements to the sustainability of its delivery-box packaging, using an eco-friendly insulation and void fill solution, which means that bubble wrap is no longer required.
Additionally, the transition to environmentally friendly WoolCool, an effective and sustainable alternative to polystyrene when transporting frozen products, has ensured that Paleo Ridge has “considered all aspects of delivery packaging from an environmental perspective”.
A return service for WoolCool liners, delivered through Paleo Ridge, saw 2,000 WoolCool strips being reused in 2019, rising steeply to 9,000 WoolCool strips in 2020 and nearly 8,000 strips reused so far in 2021.
Tyler Daly, CEO of Paleo Ridge said: “As a company we’re obsessed not only with the quality of our food, but with minimising our impact on the environment. We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact in every aspect of our business. We are immensely proud of our progress in recent years which has allowed us to reach this significant milestone.
“The importance of sustainable packaging is immense and we have always attracted customers looking for a company that’s environmentally responsible with their packaging choices. The demand for our products has more than doubled in the past year and we have worked hard to ensure that we not only maintain but increase our level of environmentally friendly packaging.”
He added: “We are committed to bolstering this high level of sustainability in the coming years and will continue to look for ways to reduce our impact on the environment.”
