Southampton is the pet-friendliest city in the UK for renters, according to insurance company Towergate.

Ranking factors in the study included the percentage of available rentals with a garden, percentage of available rentals listed as ‘pets allowed’, affordable rentals listed as ‘pets allowed’, lack of pet owner rent price ‘penalty’ and lack of neighbour complaints regarding pets amongst others.

Nottingham, Manchester, Derby and Birmingham were also ranked in the top five cities.

Leicester, Cardiff, Glasgow, Swansea and London came in bottom positions, with London ranking at number 25.

The top three cities for ‘affordable rentals listed as pets allowed’ included Bradford, Belfast and Kingston upon Hull, whereas, the top three cities for ‘lack of neighbour complaints regarding pets’ included Leeds, Edinburugh and Southampton.

Derby has the highest percentage of rentals which included a garden as well as Bradford having the highest number of “affordable pet friendly rentals”, with an average monthly rent of £417.50.
