Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has appointed Amelia Morgan as chief executive, who joins the charity as it faces increased pressure on services during its winter appeal.

Morgan brings more than 20 years’ experience across the charity and public sectors. She most recently served as people, safety and governance director at Scottish Canals.

Her earlier roles include chief executive at Venture Trust, senior positions at Yorkshire Universities, and a series of policy and secretariat posts at Scottish Natural Heritage.

According to the charity, her background in organisational development, community support and strategic leadership will help guide its work across East and Central Scotland as it seeks to meet rising needs.

The charity launched its latest winter appeal amid what it described as sustained demand for pet welfare support, rehoming services and community outreach.

In her new role, Morgan will oversee the next phase of the organisation’s strategy, which includes maintaining its core care operations and supporting households struggling to keep their animals at home.
