Monster Pet Supplies have entered the competition each week now for over a year and have used a variety of tweets to try to shine an SBS spotlight on their business but it was a joke that won Dragon’s Den’s Theo Paphitis over on Twitter. They asked“Why did the
#cat go to medical school? To become a First Aid Kit! Shop Monster Pet Supplies: www.monsterpetsupplies.co.uk”
Not only did he name the company as one of the six winners of his Small Business Sunday competition, he also re-tweeted it to his 360,000 followers. Managing director of Monster Supplies Jonny Gould said: “Thanks to Theo, we have seen huge excitement on Twitter with the announcement of our win and gained hundreds of new followers taking our Twitter fans to over 9,500. It is essential that small businesses stand out against the major players and Monster has proved again that we can do things differently.”
Based in Leeds and trading since 2010, Monster Pet Supplies is the UKs most searched for online pet supplies retailer and enjoys a huge following on Facebook of 60,000 pet owners. Owner Jonny Gould credits his Yorkshire base and his young local team with much of his success. He explains: ““Leeds is the perfect base for our business. We enjoy great relationships with the local council who have been incredibly supportive and many of the biggest names in pet food and supplies are based nearby. Many large companies looking at this sector have shown great interest in our unique approach to business, customer acquisition and retention.”
“We love to meet and chat with our customers and those local to Leeds can Call & Collect their pet food and supplies from our Kirkstall HQ, saving them a fortune! The Yorkshire way of life – working hard and playing hard – sums up the way we do business,” he added.
