Alternative Cat Awards opens for entries

Cats Protection has announced the launch of the Alternative Cat Awards 2020, after its annual National Cat Awards was postponed until next year.

Organisers for the online show are now asking entrants to upload videos of their cats to Instagram or Twitter using #AlternativeCatAwards, with entries later judged by a celebrity panel.

The awards will be divided into five categories, and the winner from each will receive a pack of Cats Protection goods worth £100, with the People’s Purrfect Choice also winning a pair of tickets to next year’s National Cat Awards at The Savoy in London.

The categories include #PurinaPurrfectTeamwork, which will be judged by beauty expert and TV presenter Gina Akers, #MischievousMoggy, to be judged by ex-England goalkeeper David Seaman and his wife, Frankie Seaman and #SeniorKitizen, judged by TV presenter Anthea Turner.

In addition, there will also be the #PurrfectlyImperfect category, judged by comedian and writer Jake Lambert, and #BestNewcomer, judged by dance choreographer and ex-‘Strictly’ judge Arlene Phillips.

Category winners will be announced on 17 September, while the public will be asked to vote in a People’s Choice for their favourite category winner. This will be announced on 23 September by Bob Mortimer.
