Royal Canin is to host a new webinar looking into the “fads and trends” in the pet food industry.

The webinar named ‘Fads and Trends in Today’s Pet Food Industry – and how to find the science’ will be hosted by Dr Cecilia Villaverde (BVSc, PhD, DACVN, DECVCN) on Wednesday 20 February at 8:00pm. Villaverde is aiming to come up with “the best way to advice clients and patients based on concrete scientific evidence”.

Villaverde said: “As marketing is the source that lures pet owners into buying into fads and trends, I will aim to dissect the common misconceptions that come with these campaigns.”

“From raw diets, to homemade treats, fads and trends are rife in the pet food market. This webinar aims to help vets and vet nurses understand the science behind some of the most popular diets, and ultimately help pet owners make well-informed long-term nutrition choices.”

Villaverde obtained her degree in 2000 and her PhD in animal nutrition in 2005 at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. She worked as a post-doctoral researcher in feline nutrition at the University of California Davis (UCD), where she also completed a residency in small animal clinical nutrition at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
