Also based in Devon, the charity is dedicated to providing highly trained dogs to current and former members of the British Armed Forces, who suffer from service-related mental health conditions.
Veterans With Dogs was recognised as part of the Soldiering On Awards which salutes the special relationship between animals and serving military personnel and veterans.
Founded by Craig MacLellan, Veterans With Dogs is the UK’s only charity of its kind. MacLellan himself suffered the effects of mental health issues for many years following his time in the forces and found support from his own assistance dog.
MacLellan said: “These well-trained dogs play a pivotal role in building up an individual’s self-esteem and self-worth, which is vital for veterans hoping to re-integrate back into society. They also have the skills to recognise early symptoms of anxiety and emotional distress.
“We’re thrilled with this support from Forthglade as it’s great knowing our dogs can benefit from such a natural and nutritious diet.”
Gerard Lovell, joint MD of Forthglade, added: “We’re pleased to be able to offer our food to Veterans With Dogs, it’s an incredible charity that demonstrates how our canine companions play such a valuable role in supporting our own health and wellbeing, and the special bond we have with dogs.”
