Two animals have been found dead, with others still missing after a burglary at a Welsh cat sanctuary.
Two cats from Ty Nant Cat Sanctuary in Cymmer were found dead near the site and the search for the other animals is ongoing, following a break in on Saturday evening.
The team at the centre have said they are shocked and heartbroken by what has happened, reports Walesonline.
A gofundme page has been set up and raised over £9,000 in 22 hours.
“I don’t really know what to feel,” said team member Teresa Nicky.
“We have been out all night and this morning searching for the cats. Last night, we found one cat killed in a lane and this morning, we have found a second cat in the area. They were both older cats who had been with us for about 10 years.
“We also found three cats trapped in a cage covered in ferns this morning. Fortunately they were alive, but I can’t imagine what would have happened if we hadn’t found them.
“I live nearby and I always bring cats here to a new home that I feel is safe, but now I’m not sure.
“All our hard work and love that we have shown these cats has been devastated by this malicious attack. We are all absolutely heartbroken.
“If anyone has any information about what has happened, please get in touch with us or with the police. We hope all our fellow cat lovers with help us with this.”
Two men have been arrested and are currently in police custody.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “We are investigating a burglary which occurred at Ty Nant Cat Sanctuary in Port Talbot.
