Doggy Doggy Yum Yum sees 60% rise in summer sales

Baboo Gelato, the Dorset-based ice cream maker, has reported a 60% increase in sales this summer for its frozen dog treat, Doggy Doggy Yum Yum.

The company said the rise was driven by hot weather and new distribution deals. 

Founded by Sam and Annie Hanbury, Baboo Gelato produces a range of artisan gelato alongside the pet-friendly product, which is made in-house at purpose-built facilities near Rampisham.

The original banana and peanut butter flavour of Doggy Doggy Yum Yum has previously won several industry awards, including Best Pet Treat of the Year at the Pet Industry Federation Awards in 2024. 

This summer the company launched a new apple and blueberry variety, which has reached the finals of the Best New Treat category at the 2025 PetQuip Awards.

The new recipe uses coconut milk in place of dairy, organic agave syrup instead of refined sugar, and vegetable fibre as a stabiliser. Baboo Gelato said 5p from every tub sold is donated to the Dogs for Good charity.

The product is distributed to pet shops via Pedigree Wholesale and to the grocery and hospitality trade through The Hunts Food Group.

Sam Hanbury said: “Demand had broadened beyond pet shops to include cafés, pubs, restaurants and tourist destinations. It just seems that most savvy people involved in food and drink want some of the poochie pound and we can help with a classy product, well supported with point of sale.”
