Perthshire-based pet food manufacturer Wilsons has begun a complete revamp of its working dog range.

The company will keep its Original and Extra Choice muesli-based dog foods but it will remove the pellets in the range and replace it with meat chunks.

A further four new working dog lines will be introduced, including lamb and rice and chicken and rice, as well as other bird and poultry products.

Wilsons is also now offering the option of mixed pallets and delivery is free to retailers that order a full pallet.

The company was established as an animals feed farm in 1861. Last year, it changed hands and production was moved to a purpose-built food factory near Blairgowrie.

Commercial director Jamie Pugh said the product was “long overdue” for a change.

Pugh said: We’ve improved the recipes and introduced new options to give customers a much bigger choice. The bag designs were also getting a bit stuffy so we’ve gone for a clean and simple colour-coded bag, but with black and white images, which is a bit of a break from the norm.”
