Charley Chau announced it is celebrating a decade of trading, having built up from a small family-run business to a brand that now sells to customers in over sixty countries around the world.
The luxury dog bedding specialist first launched in August 2010, after sisters Christine and Jenny Chau began hand-stitching two Snuggle Beds for their Italian Greyhounds, Charley and Anna.
One of its leading products, the Ducky Donut Bed, spent six years in development. Each large bed uses forty-five metres of stitching, and the sides are filled with ethically-sourced duck feather pads that help keep the bed’s shape.
This September, the brand will also launch its version of a bolster bed that will be “made to Charley Chau’s standards of comfort, quality, and performance over time”.
Its creators say that they “take canine comfort very seriously”, noting that dogs spend an average of twelve to fourteen hours sleeping each day.
Every product is machine washable, with all beds available in upholstery quality fabrics with waterproof liners, spare covers, and replacement mattresses. The brand also uses upholstery quality fabrics in a selection of colourways.
Christine Chau said: “Jenny and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to combine our love of dogs with our passion for interior design and call it work.
“We’ve had unbelievable support from our customers and other friends over the last ten years for which we are truly grateful.”
She added: “It’s amazing to think that we started out by accident, sewing beds for our own dogs, with no intention of setting up a business, and yet we were named Family Business Entrepreneurs of the Year at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
“Charley has spent ten years setting a new standard for dog beds and the general dog loving public is now much more demanding when it comes to choosing the perfect bed for their dogs. I like to think that we’ve had a huge part to play in creating that shift. But this is just the first ten years. There’s still much more to come from Charley Chau.”
