Casco Pet has extended into the animal shelters industry with the launch of a standalone department dedicated to welfare-focused housing options.
The international animal housing and cabinetry provider said it created the new division to give animals in care spaces that are calmer, quieter and more comfortable, adding that it will support shelter organisations in investigating fundraising opportunities to finance facility upgrades.
The kennels in the new range feature high-strength tempered safety glass doors instead of typical stainless-steel grid fronts to dampen noise and visual stress between animals, creating a calmer kennel environment that helps animals relax and enhances visibility for caregivers.
They additionally include glass surfaces that make it easier to keep them clean and tempered glass upper sections that let natural light and air flow into them, offering a more pleasant and inviting space for animals and a better time for visitors.
As part of the project, Casco has partnered with animal care facility firm Therian, drawing on its in-depth knowledge of shelter operations to design environments that cater to the needs of both animals and care teams.
The new section will be headed by Tori Williams, previously the COO of animal wellbeing programme Fear Free, who will oversee the production of pragmatic, affordable animal housing that combats stress, promotes wellbeing and proliferates adoption outcomes in shelters.
The company said its new shelters have been developed to reflect Fear Free principles and research that shows materials such as glass largely lower audible stimuli, in turn reducing stress to animals.
It added that research indicates that poor housing can adversely impact animal health and wellbeing, while enriched environments encourage natural behaviours linked to heightened chances of adoption out of shelters.
Williams said: “Shelters are often where pets are at their most vulnerable. Thoughtful, evidence-based design can make a meaningful difference to daily wellbeing and help support better adoption outcomes, giving animals the best possible chance of a new life.
“CASCO Pet has built a powerful reputation for creating stress-reducing environments in pet retail and veterinary spaces, and expanding this mission into shelters and humane organisations feels both purposeful and necessary. I’m honoured to lead the expansion into this sector to support animal welfare teams and improve the lives of pets in their care.”
Matthew Bubear, CEO of CASCO Pet, added: “The animal shelter and rescue sector has been crying out for modern housing solutions that prioritise animal welfare and stress reduction. By combining our global housing expertise with Therian’s operational insights, we aim to deliver high-performance, wellness-focused environments that help animals feel safe, calm and comfortable and increase their chances of adoption. I’m delighted to have Tori on board to lead that mission.”
