UK-based premium pet nutrition brand Essential Foods has entered a strategic partnership with Dogs 4 Wildlife to provide specialist nutrition and quarterly financial donations for canine conservation teams in Southern Africa.

The collaboration focuses on the training and deployment of elite canine units tasked with reducing wildlife crime and poaching.

Essential Foods will supply performance-led nutrition to the organisation’s training base to support the stamina and recovery of working dogs operating in extreme environmental conditions.

Currently, Dogs 4 Wildlife manages over 15 specialist dogs across several Southern African countries, with internal data indicating a reduction in poaching activity of up to 75% in areas of deployment.

The partnership also includes a financial component, with quarterly cash donations directed toward field operations, ranger training programs, and community engagement initiatives.

These funds are intended to ensure the long-term sustainability of the anti-poaching units. Beyond operational support, the two organisations will collaborate on awareness campaigns targeting consumers interested in animal welfare and global conservation efforts.

Dogs 4 Wildlife is led by a team of canine behaviourists and specialists who focus on both the physical performance of the dogs and the educational development of local rangers.

The integration of Essential Foods’ products into the training regimen is designed to meet the specific physiological demands of high-intensity conservation work.

Customers of Essential Foods will also have the opportunity to support the charity through their purchases.

Christian Degner-Elsner, founder and chairman of Essential Foods, said: “Essential Foods is playing a part in the work being done to end poaching alongside Dogs 4 Wildlife. Their mission is our mission. Knowing that the canine heroes at the home training base are fueled by nutrition I have perfected, backed by our quarterly cash donations going directly into the field, makes our customers and colleagues proud.”

Jacqui Law, founder of Dogs 4 Wildlife, added: “This partnership is a step in ensuring our conservation dogs are supported from training through to deployment. Nutrition plays a role in a dog’s ability to perform. With Essential Foods, we can give these dogs an advantage in the field.”
