Waita Pets has announced it is launching freeze-dried treats that will aid cats’ and dogs’ dental care, in honour of Pet Dental Health Awareness Month.

The pet treat brand said its new products are made from bones and cartilage, whose rough, chewy and dried texture scrapes against pet’s teeth to remove plaque and reduce tartar buildup for healthier teeth and gums.

It added that the mechanical action increases saliva flow, which acts as a natural cleanser to break down food particles and combat oral bacterial growth.

The range includes Waita Freeze-Dried Chicken Cartilage, Chicken Neck, Pigeon Neck, Goose Trachea and whole Quail.

The brand said it also produces several fish-based treats, such as freeze-dried salmon, capelin and mackerel which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and yield the same benefits as their other textured treats.

It added that while regular chewing can prevent gum inflammation and reduce the risk of periodontal disease, freeze-dried eliminates risk of splintering which can happen with cooked, raw or air-dried bones.

Waita Pets is set to display its whole treat offering at Crufts 2026 at the NEC in Birmingham from 5-8 March.

Waita Pets said: “Looking after your dog or cat’s teeth is essential for their overall health, as dental disease can lead to pain, infections, and even organ damage. Pet Dental Health Month is an opportunity to give advice to pet parents by giving them a number of practical steps that they can take to care for their pet companions’ teeth.”
