Former actor Andy Tierney has launched a Petpals franchise store in Halesowen, bringing the national pet care brand to the area.

The new Petpals store will offer dog walking, cat visits, pet sitting and pet transport for owners across the town.

Tierney lives in Halesowen with his dog, Marley, and said setting up the business marked a new chapter after years working in a range of professions.

He previously spent 13 years in the British armed forces before working in the pub trade and policing.

He later retrained as an actor, appearing in stage and screen productions, including the television series Peaky Blinders.

He said a cancer diagnosis several years ago prompted him to reassess his priorities and consider a career that offered more day-to-day purpose and stability.

Tierney said: “I’ve lived all over the place, but this really feels like home. That sense of belonging is reflected in how I want to look after people’s pets. I wanted to do something that brings comfort and reassurance and feels worthwhile every day.”

“It makes you stop and reassess everything. I had to take a step back and really think about how I wanted to spend my time going forward. I came through it knowing I wanted to do something that brings comfort and reassurance – something that feels worthwhile on a day-to-day level.”

Petpals is now operating in Halesowen, offering services to local residents following Tierney’s completion of training and compliance checks required by the franchise.
