Sign-ups double for National Pet Shop Day 2025
Events planned across the UK range from in-store parties and expert drop-ins to giveaways, competitions and pet-themed treats

National Pet Shop Day is set to return on 12 July with more than 400 independent retailers already signed up, more than twice the number at the same point last year.
The initiative, launched in 2024 by pet healthcare manufacturer Johnson’s Veterinary Products, aims to highlight the role of independent pet shops as local hubs for animal care and advice.
The campaign is supported by the Pet Industry Federation (PIF) and the British Independent Retail Association (Bira).
Retailers taking part will be able to access a toolkit of downloadable assets, event ideas, social media content and PR support to help promote their activities.
Events planned across the UK range from in-store parties and expert drop-ins to giveaways, competitions and pet-themed treats.
The 2024 launch saw a variety of creative events nationwide. At Emersons Pet Centre in Felling, a retro display made from 1980s newspaper clippings prompted conversations about the shop’s local heritage. Other activities included face painting, petting zones and charity partnerships.
Paul Gwynn, managing director at Johnson’s, said: “We set out to create something that would uplift the sector and give independent pet shops a platform, and it’s clear that message is resonating. Shops aren’t just participating, they’re taking real ownership.”
Nigel Baker, chief executive at PIF, added: “In an era of faceless transactions and one-click shopping, pet owners value real relationships and knowledgeable advice. This campaign helps remind people what’s at stake.”
