A dog has saved a couple by waking them up after a petrol bomb was thrown into their house in the middle of the night.
The attack damaged both the couple’s home and the house next door, and is said by the couple to have been part of an ongoing argument in their town.
Pauline McCormick, sleeping in the house at the time told media: “I would have been dead, my husband and dog would have been dead – there’s no doubt in my mind.
“I ran to a neighbour’s house and they phoned the fire brigade. The house was just, smoke everywhere, flames everywhere. It was just burning in front of me, and my car was in flames too.”
Detective sergeant Pete Crothers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland told media: “This caused extensive damage to the house and also damaged the property next door. It is also believed a petrol bomb was used on a vehicle parked outside at the time which totally destroyed it.
“Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of these reckless actions but I am asking for the public’s assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
He added: “Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference 73 07/06/18. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
