Doggy day care centre, Claire’s Comfy Canines Ltd based in Burnham, Slough, has supported The Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) for the last few years through the modern apprenticeship scheme and the work placement programme.apprenticeship scheme and the work placement programme.
This year they are increasing their support and have introduced a Work Placement Certificate. The certificate provides students with the opportunity to work towards something tangible to put on their CVs, once they complete the work placement.
There is a basic entry level and an intermediate and advanced options for students who may return to the doggy day care centre later in their education.
The students will be assessed during their placement on dog handling, health and safety, personal attributes and areas which are specific to CCCs. All students will receive a certificate, there is no pass or fail, but they will receive a pass, merit or distinction.
This year MD Claire Hunter has already spent time on site at BCA discussing future choices with the Level 2 animal management students and is looking forward to providing further support to the level 3 and foundation degree students later this year.
Covering areas such as job applications and how to set up a business in the pet care industry. Having spent 12 years in the recruitment industry and eight years building CCCs, she is hoping to pass on plenty of knowledge to the students.
Claire says, “Young people are ultimately the future of pet care services and I hope that by providing support at this early stage of their career we can ensure that standards are raised and they have access to the best opportunities in our competitive industry.”
In addition to working with young people, the doggy day care centre is also offering pet owners and professionals the chance to increase their knowledge of dogs with offering seminars on canine body language and nutrition to be held at Berkshire College of Agriculture later this year.
The work placement certificate is offered for free to all students, A Level equivalent and above and the seminars are now bookable via Eventbrite. Contact Claire’s Comfy Canines for more information.
