Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has announced the postponement of its 2020 annual events amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The organisation made the “difficult decision” to postpone its Paws by the Prom Open Day and Christmas Market. Other events which have also been postponed include Pub Quiz, Car Boot Sale and Comedy night events.

In a statement Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home said: “Due to the size of these events where we welcome hundreds of supporters to our grounds down at Seafield, we do not feel it would be responsible nor realistic for these to go ahead this year.”

“We are currently reviewing our corporate In The Dog House event and making changes to enable this to go ahead in a safe and socially distant manner with contingency plans in place. We will closely monitor the ever changing situation and make adjustments where necessary.”

The organisation added that running these events allow engagement with animal lovers and raise “vital” income for the dogs and cats at the establishment, which is “needed now more than ever with estimated losses of over £650,000 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”
