Gambol Pet Food Group has signed a global strategic cooperation agreement with Aker QRILL Company, formalising a partnership focused on pet nutrition innovation and sustainability.
The agreement was signed at Gambol Pet’s research and development centre in Shanghai and elevates the relationship between the two companies from a long-standing supplier arrangement to a broader strategic alliance.
Under the partnership, the companies will collaborate on research and development, combining Aker QRILL Company’s marine nutrition expertise with Gambol Pet’s data on pet behaviour to develop new nutrition products.
The agreement also includes joint work on environmental, social and governance initiatives across Gambol Pet’s supply chain, as well as co-branded activity aimed at global consumers.
Gambol Pet president Stephanie Du said the company’s growth had been driven by building products to international standards from the outset. She said: “Aker’s approach aligns perfectly with our core belief in respecting the nature of dogs and cats. True pet nutrition means respecting animals as independent beings.”
Aker QRILL Company specialises in krill-based ingredients and has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council since 2006. The company uses proprietary harvesting technology designed to reduce impact on the Antarctic marine ecosystem.
Krill fishing in the Antarctic is regulated by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, which permits harvesting of only a small proportion of available biomass each year.
As part of the signing ceremony, Bjørn Wallentin, senior vice president of global sales at Aker QRILL Company, presented Gambol Pet with a symbolic invitation linked to future Antarctic conservation activity.
Du said marine protection was central to the partnership’s aims. She added: “Protecting the ocean is the most meaningful long-term commitment we can make – for pets and future generations.”
