Bristol Vet Specialists has appointed Kieran Borgeat to its cardiology department as demand for specialist services continues to grow.

Borgeat, a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) recognised specialist in veterinary cardiology, will support the expansion of cardiology services at the 30,000 sq. ft. referral hospital, including a new minimally invasive mitral valve repair programme in collaboration with the Royal Veterinary College.

He will also help develop satellite clinics in primary care practices across the region and contribute to a new screening clinic for inherited heart conditions in pedigree dogs and cats.

Borgeat graduated from the University of Bristol in 2005 and completed a residency and master’s degree at the Royal Veterinary College.

He has held roles in private referral practice and academia, published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, and trained veterinary professionals worldwide in cardiovascular techniques.

He also co-hosts The Animal Heartbeat, a veterinary cardiology podcast.

The cardiology team at the Bristol site now comprises three clinicians. The centre is part of CVS Group and houses multidisciplinary teams working across a range of small animal disciplines, including neurology, oncology and intensive care.

Borgeat said: “Bristol Vet Specialists is an amazing hospital with an expert multi-disciplinary team, providing the best care possible to pets when they need it most.

“Our facilities and skills also give us huge potential to increase the cardiology services we offer. We are expanding all aspects of cardiology, with an ACVIM-accredited residency programme to train the next generation of Diplomates and a 24/7 cardiology backup for our emergency services.”
