Dogs4Rescue, the independent dog rescue centre, is building a new ‘Rescue World’ for the dogs with help from the community.
The group broke ground in November last year and the second site is on track to open in the coming months, creating 20 new rescue spaces in phase one.
The external build of the communal dogs’ log cabin is almost complete and the rescue is now appealing to companies and tradesmen for help with the interiors.
The construction project is being supported by a host of companies including Euan Kellie Property Solutions, Acute Engineering, ACS Construction, McVeigh Offsite and JJ Harrison PVC Products.
Emma Billington, founder of Dogs4Rescue, said: “The dogs’ log cabin is turning out to be ‘a patchwork of love’ with everyone helping in whatever way they can. AO are donating white goods, Fibo donated returned wall coverings, Butternut Box are building the dogs a kitchen… and our supporters have bought items such as a roof tile from Grumpy Stu’s shop.
“The dogs don’t care about everything matching perfectly, they just want to feel warm and safe. Donated goods, offcuts, returns, end of lines… this is how we will get the doors open in spite of the cost of living crisis. And their home will be all the more special for it.”
Michael Leigh, who has come out of retirement to help to project manage, added: “I may be considered ‘old’ by some, but to be part of this project has been a privilege. It’s been an opportunity to share my knowledge and skills while contributing to a cause which is close to my heart. Age is just a number. We may be older, but we have the experience and wisdom to get the job done.”
