National minimum wage increases on October 1

From October 1 2016, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) increases for workers under 25 and apprentices by between 3 percent and 4.7 percent. The National Minimum Wage is the minimum rate of hourly pay most workers are entitled to by law. The rate depends on a worker’s age and whether they are an apprentice.

From this October 1, the following NMW increases will come into force:

£6.95 per hour – 21-24 year old (previously £6.70)

£5.55 per hour 18 – 20 years old (previously £5.30)

£4 per hour – 16-17 years old (previously £3.87)

£3.40 for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over who are in the first year of apprenticeship (previously £3.30)
