J&K Aquatics has announced the launch of the first UK Aquascaping Championship.
The competition is sponsored by Dennerle, Tetra, Eheim and Arcadia and supported by UK Aquascaper Alastair Treymaine. It aims to offer aquascapers based in the UK and RoI the opportunity to win a £500 cash prize along with a range of prizes from the competition sponsors.
Paul James MD of J&K Aquatics explains ‘Aquascaping is a relatively under developed market in the UK and RoI considering the size of the market on the continent. We have decided to put on this competition in order to raise the profile of the hobby in the UK and RoI and to help retailers further promote aquascaping and in turn generate sales.’
J&K Aquatics is inviting retailers to get involved in the competition by encouraging their customers and staff to enter. A dedicated website for the competition can be found at www.ukasc.co.uk and offers entry information alongside a range of materials to promote the event. These materials are available for free download from the Retailer Area of the UKASC website. Retailers that do not hold an account with J&K Aquatics are still welcome to participate.
The competition will run in two stages – the first of which requires entrants to submit a photograph of their aquascape for judging by a panel of industry and aquascaping experts. A cap on 250 entrants has been applied to the competition, all aquascapes must be in existence and be available for inspection if required. A £10 entry fee is applicable for all entries.
Each aquascape will be judged against the competition criteria and entrants will be ranked in accordance to the judges decisions. The top three entrants will scoop one of the fantastic cash prizes up for offer with first place taking £500 and being awarded the title of UK Aquascaping Champion! All entrants will be awarded a certificate with their ranking.
The top three aquascapers will then be invited to take place in a live ‘scape off’ on J&K Aquatics stand at Aqua 2015 in Telford in October and the people that attend the show will be able to vote for a winner, who will receive a further £150.
