Quite possibly one of the most coveted prizes in the land has been scooped by Christie Hanson from Huddersfield. After being inundated with entries, FRONTLINE® Spot On, has announced Christine as the UK’s most dedicated pet owner!

FRONTLINE® Spot On – flea and tick protection, has been scouring the UK to recognise and reward people who go above and beyond for their beloved pet.

Beating off hundreds of other entries, Christie’s story stood out from the others and really highlighted her dedication to her rescue dogs Roxie and Copper. Adopting 7-year-old cross breed Copper, then 6-year-old Roxie a few months later as a companion for her, they soon became the best of friends.  However their joy was short lived as in April 2014, Roxie was diagnosed with Lymphoma.

Every week, Christie drove Roxie to have chemotherapy and held her paw while she endured blood tests.  At home, Copper would wait patiently for her best friend to return.  When Christie found out Roxie’s treatment wasn’t working, she was referred to a specialist Vet in Liverpool and together they would undertake a 150 mile round trip every week to ensure Roxie had the best possible chance of survival.

Determined to save her family, Christie spent her wages on pet insurance and premium pet food for both her dogs to ensure they received the best nutrition possible, and would hide Roxie’s steroid tablets and vitamins in the finest chicken meals. To make sure Copper wasn’t left out she too had her own specially prepared meals.

Sadly in September, Roxie lost her battle leaving Christie and Copper heartbroken.  Christie is determined to continuing placing her pet’s needs before her own and keep Copper’s tail wagging.  She is currently making sure they spend as much time as possible together and has set up play dates so Copper doesn’t miss out on canine company– something FRONTLINE saw as true sign of dedication.

Christie and Dogs

Christie was closely followed by a selection of runners up including Chloe Haynes, who says she always puts her animals first and has rescued a huge variety of animals including gerbils, cats, dogs, rats and even geckos! Clair Missen, another runner up, shares her life with 9 cats, 1 dog, 4 rabbits, 29 guinea pigs and a horse and spends all her time fundraising to raise money for animals.

Entries were judged by a panel of vet experts including celebrity vet Joe Inglis. Christie Hanson’s prize, other than the wonderful accolade, is a sparkling trophy and a year’s worth of FRONTLINE® Spot On but also a pet-friendly ‘staycation’ for the whole family and a pet hamper full of goodies. Not bad at all and well deserved.

Christie says of the news, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won the competition and been crowned The UK’s Most Dedicated Pet Owner. To many people, pets are a huge part of the family and for us; Roxie & Copper are no different. Roxie was a real fighter and I’m so proud of Copper’s devotedness to her best friend, I’ve learnt to cherish every moment with my dogs and will ensure Copper is doted on.”

The competition launched at London dog-friendly café, Scooby’s Boutique, with owners and their pets invited along to have their pictures taken in a specialised pet- friendly photo booth. Competition hopefuls from all over the UK sent in their fun pet pictures, along with a description on why they deserved to win via the FRONTLINE Spot On UK Facebook page.

Joe Inglis says, “This is a brilliant competition to reward those pet owners that go that extra mile for their pets. FRONTLINE® Spot On has pets’ best interests at heart and wants to make sure they always get the best care possible – after all, they are one of the family! It was hard to pick from so many amazing entries but I think the most deserving person won in the end!”
