Pets at Home has announced that Karen Whitworth, independent non-executive director and chair of the audit and risk committee, intends to stand down from her position on 20 May 2021.

According to the company, Whitworth made the decision to resign as she has “decided to accept the role of non-executive director with Tesco plc” which commences on 18 June 2021.

Whitworth was appointed to the board of Pets at Home in 2020, after spending a 10 year tenure at Sainsbury plc.

Pets at Home, which recently made the decision to repay £28.9m of business rates relief said the company has “commenced a search for a successor and will make an announcement in due course”.

Ian Burke, Chairman of Pets at Home, said: “I wish Karen all the best for the future and would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her valuable contribution to Board and Audit and Risk Committee discussions this year.”
