Pet store plans takeover of former car showroom

A pet and gardening supply store is reportedly planning to take over a former car showroom in Lincolnshire.

According to Lincolnshire Live, the retailer has now submitted plans to North Kesteven District Council to convert the former Troops Garage in Leadenham into a retail space.

If approved, The Country Store, which offers a range of pet, gardening and homeware supplies, would operate from the site.

In its supporting statement to the council, the retailer said it had been “difficult” to find somewhere else to base its business, and the new location was the “best chance of being able to continue to serve customers”.

The statement read: “By being located at the site in Leadenham we will be in a great position to continue to service our current catchment area and, moving forward, be able to offer our products/services in a location that is easily accessed from the A17 and beyond.

“Having built up this thriving department of the business for the past eight-plus years, I have purchased it so that it isn’t lost with the former business closure, which would be a big loss to all of our customers that we have looked after for so long.”

It added: “The change of use proposed will have no negative impact on the area as the building will not be altered or extended in any way.

“The existing external footprint will remain the same, and if anything having a tenant in the building will be more beneficial in the long run as we will be maintaining the appearance of it and not letting the building deteriorate over time.”
