Benyfit Natural Pet Food said: “We are recalling batches of raw dog food beef products as a precaution, following the detection of salmonella in another un-released beef product. This was detected as part of our ongoing testing programme.”

The company said customers who bought the affected products online have been contacted. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

The Foods Standards Agency said: “The products listed above might be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause illness in humans and animals.

“The products could therefore carry a potential risk because of the presence of salmonella, either through direct handling of the pet food, or indirectly, for example from pet feeding bowls, utensils or contact with the faeces of animals.”
