Ruffwear joins the Outdoor Industries Association

Premium dog gear brand Ruffwear, has become a member the Outdoor Industries Association (OIA), with the aim of contributing to the overall growth of the outdoors industry.

Ruffwear aims to provide outdoor wear for animals with “all the technical innovations as human outdoor gear”. Through its OIA membership, Ruffwear owners, Accapi, want to contribute to the OIA achieving its mission, to get more people active outdoors.

According to a Ruffwear household survey, 22% of all walking trips are to walk the dog many and as a result, it claims the pet category has seen significant growth in consumer spend.

Andrew Geere, CEO of Accapi Group, said: “We see our membership with the OIA as a positive step towards encouraging people to enjoy shared experiences with their dogs. The one thing that unites consumers across the industry, from day walkers and caravanners to climbers and mountain bikers, is spending time in the outdoors with their dogs.

“The OIA is a fantastic organisation, of which we share many ideals, and one with huge potential. We feel this partnership provides us with a platform to introduce a whole new audience to our products as well as helping to contribute to the growth of the outdoor industry as a whole.

“Experience tells us that our four-legged best friends can drive extra income for stores through their owners, making Ruffwear a fantastic opportunity for retailers. We look forward to motivating many more people to get outdoors with their canine companions and introducing them to products that will open up new possibilities.”

CEO of the OIA, Andrew Denton, said; “We are delighted to welcome Accapi and Ruffwear – I own two very active dogs myself and am a keen brand fan! The OIA’s mission is to get more people outdoors – we often joke when talking strategy with our partners that all we need to do is get everyone in the UK a dog and we will double the health of the nation. I hope we can partner Ruffwear and introduce them to projects that develop more people active outdoors.”
