Pet supplement company Zesty Paws has launched its first calming diffuser for cats, designed to help reduce stress-driven behaviours such as scratching, spraying and over-grooming.The product, available at Pets at Home and for pre-order on the Zesty Paws website, uses patent-pending nebulising technology to emit a pheromone mist intended to help cats feel calm and secure.
The diffuser replicates the feline facial pheromone, known as F3, which cats naturally release to mark safe and familiar spaces. The company said the diffuser’s “Orchid Mist” fragrance helps create a soothing environment without the use of heat or drugs.
Carlota Carvajal, veterinary nutritionist and global science manager at Zesty Paws, said anxiety among cats can stem from a range of causes, including separation from owners, loud noises, visitors or changes in the home environment.
She said: “Cats show their stress in different ways, some may hide more often, scratch furniture, spray or over-groom themselves. These behaviours are not signs of ‘bad’ cats, but rather indications that they’re feeling insecure or unsettled.”
Carvajal added that maintaining consistent routines, providing safe spaces and using calming tools can help reduce stress and improve feline wellbeing.
