A number of animals have died at the Isle of Wight Pet Centre after it caught fire on Monday at 11pm.
Five fire crews were called from across the island who managed to put the fire out just before 1am, however the crews were not able to save the lives of birds, reptiles and lizards. The blaze began on the ground floor shop area, with an investigation into its cause currently underway, it is not thought to be suspicious.
Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that the shops ground floor and roof were damaged in the blaze. A fundraising page has been set up to help manager Paul Collins and his team and has so far raised over £1,000.
The shop has been trading for over 17 years and has breeding projects for reptiles along with selling rabbits, hamsters and chinchillas alongside other small pets.
