Independent pet shop scoops top prize in Burns awards

A Kilmarnock pet shop has won £2,500 cash in a national competition ran by Burns Pet Nutrition for the best shop window display.

The independent shop, named Sommerville Feeds, has been running for over 38 years and beat off competition across the country to be crowned nationwide winners of Burns 25 Year Stockist Competition organised by pet food manufacturer, Burns Pet Nutrition, in celebration of its 25th anniversary.

Stockists up and down the country were invited to create a window display featuring the Burns brand and encouraging customers to vote for their entry on social media. Following a month of voting, Sommerville Feeds was announced as the overall winner at PATS Telford. Burns representative, Mark Oszczypala, visited the shop on Friday to present the prize.

Burns founder, and veterinary surgeon, John Burns said: “We have always championed the independent retailer over big corporations and wanted to give something back to the stockists that work so hard to promote our brand, even in this challenging retail climate.
