Thieves steal safe with four-figure sum from a Garden Centre

An investigation is taking place as they hunt for thieves who stole a safe from Castle Douglas Garden Centre.

The safe, containing a four-figure sum, is believes to have been taken by more than one person due to the size and weight of the object.

A spokesman for the garden centre told the Daily Record: “They kicked the front door down to get in.

“It’s frustrating – the last thing we needed – but the police were prompt and efficient and hopefully their efforts pay off.

“I was surprised the robbers were able to move the safe but there isn’t really too much else I can say. We were back up and running by Sunday afternoon.”

Door-to-door enquires are underway as well as CCTV footage reviews.

Detective Constable Scott Ruddick said: “We’re keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in or around the area of the Castle Douglas garden centre overnight from Saturday into Sunday. This includes the Birkland Park or Torrs Drive area.

“We’d also like to hear from anyone who may have been at the garden centre on Saturday and perhaps saw anyone acting suspiciously, or taking particular notice of anything in the centre.”

Anyone with information that will assist the ongoing investigation should contact Castle Douglas Police Station by telephoning 101.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
