Amazon takes on bricks-and-mortar stores with cash sales

Amazon has launched a new feature called Amazon Cash, making physical money payments possible for online goods.

The new service has been released in order to help those without bank accounts or debit/credit cards and is only available in the US at current.

Customers receive a barcode from Amazon that they then take into participating stores. They are then able to hand over cash and ‘top-up’ their amazon account with physical money once showing the code on their smart phones.

Alternatively customers are able to print the barcode and bring it into store on paper.

Payment is placed onto the account and consumers are able to purchase items from the Amazon store immediately.

Amazon Cash is free-of-charge, and it will be available in over 10,000 locations in all major US cities, according to the company.

The company plans to add more retailers to the list as Amazon Cash grows.
