How much hay should a rabbit eat? The Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) tackles the question with a recently released poster, ‘The Importance of Hay’.

The poster was made in conjunction with veterinary and nutritional experts from the PFMA’s Small Animal Group. It features an outline of a rabbit with different sized body parts, representing the high proportion of hay needed in comparison to other elements of the diet.

The free poster is available online at http://www.pfma.org.uk/importance-of-hay-for-herbivores. Visitors will also find pet care advice for rabbits including a Rabbit Size-O-Meter to check a pet’s size and tips on nutritional requirements and feeding.

Nicole Paley, communications manager for PFMA, explained: “All of PFMA’s tools and resources can be downloaded and printed from the website and can be used in vet waiting rooms, pet shops at point of sale or given to rabbit owning clients. This poster is particularly popular among pet professionals as it is visually very striking and clearly illustrates the elements necessary in a rabbit’s diet.”
