Profits double for pet food manufacturer

Pre-tax profits have more than doubled for an international manufacturer and distributor of wild bird and pet food products as revenues exceeded the £10m mark, recently filed accounts have revealed.

Unipet International posted turnover of £10.8m for the year ended 30 November 2015, an increase of about 22 percent of £8.9m, reports insidermedia.

The Sittingbourne company said a harsher winter enabled sales to remain strong in the early part of the financial year.

Due to this, the business has achieved new customer growth and continued development of new product lines.

During the year Unipet International invested almost £680,000 into capital machinery as it continued to improve its production facilities both in terms of capacity and efficiency.

“The continued aim, as disclosed last year, is to enable the company to achieve greater turnover with minimal overheads and to allow the company to easily scale production according to both seasonal trends and unexpected peaks and troughs in demand from its customers,” the directors said in the annual report.

Unipet International operates from a UK base in Sittingbourne, as well as sites in The Netherlands, the US and Hong Kong.
