Blue Cross announced it has reopened its animal hospital in Merton following a refurbishment.

The animal charity said that work was needed to update the reception area, dispensary and other public spaces within the hospital on Merton High Street.

The hospital now features a new operating theatre, as well as a new exotics kennel following the improvement work.

The site, originally unveiled by HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1999, undertakes around 12,000 veterinary consultations every year.

Louise Newman, practice manager at Blue Cross Merton, said: “Our hospital is 20 years old so these improvements will help to improve the experience of our pets and clients in our reception and clinical areas.

“The exotics kennel will help us to ensure small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs have a safe and secure area during their stay with us.”

She added: “We’d like to thank all our clients for their patience and understanding during the hospital’s closure and look forward to welcoming them through our doors now we are back open.

“I’d also like to thank our generous supporters and donors as without them we wouldn’t have been able to complete the improvement work or continue to provide the vital care and support Blue Cross provides to pets and clients.”
