The National Office of Animal Health (NOAH) has announced the second phase of its Paws to Protect campaign, reminding UK pet owners to read labels and follow the instructions on veterinary medicinal labels.
The trade association’s revived campaign additionally focuses on the importance of following label guidelines for pets as well as their owners and the wider environment.
The group said veterinary medicines are scrupulously authorised and offer detailed instructions to ensure their safe and effective use. It outlined three benefits of adhering to these directions:
Your pet will be kept safe, as correct dosages and timings of administration boosts medicines’ effectiveness and reduces preventable risks
You will be kept safe, as labels provide crucial advice on handling, storage and hygiene to avoid unnecessary harm
The environment will be protected, as storage and disposal recommendations lessens the chance of negative environmental impact
NOAH created Paws to Protect to generate awareness among pet owners of the need to read and follow veterinary medicine labels and instructions and enhance understanding of what responsible use looks like.
The group said its campaign offers accessible advice and practical reminders that apply to all veterinary medicines across all product categories.
It added that it is encouraging veterinary professionals, retailers and other groups involved in animal health to endorse and spread the campaign’s messages across their own platforms.
Commenting on the relaunch of the campaign, NOAH chief executive Dawn Howard said: “Responsible use of veterinary medicines starts with a simple action: reading the label and following the instructions provided.
“These instructions are there to protect pets, their owners and the environment. Through Paws to Protect, we want to empower pet owners with clear, practical information that supports safe and effective use in everyday life.”
