DC Holdings, the parent company of Battle Hayward and Bower, has acquired 100% of animal health and equine wholesaler Trilanco.

The Lincoln-based group, known as Battles, said it aims to strengthen its position in the pet and equestrian markets through the deal.

Its wholesale operations will eventually consolidate at the Wesham distribution centre, while manufacturing and brand management activities are set to remain in Lincoln.

The group will be led by managing director Richard Dewey Clarke. Integration of the two businesses is expected to take place over the coming months.

Trilanco has operated for 45 years. Customers and brand partners have been advised that business will proceed as usual during the initial transition period.

Clarke said: “The markets we service are facing a lot of competitive pressures and the combination of these two historic businesses will enable the enlarged group to better serve our customers’ needs.

“We’ve had extensive discussions with the management team at Trilanco and have some exciting plans to share with all our stakeholders in the weeks ahead. For now, customers should continue to order from Battles or Trilanco as normal. We will release more information regarding the integration of the businesses in the coming weeks.”

Managing director of Trilanco, Martin Balmer, added: “Having grown the business over the last 45 years, it was personally important to me to see Trilanco’s future growth secured. This deal does just that.

“By joining forces with Battles, we can create growth opportunities for our combined teams, our customers and brand owners. It’s been an honour be at the helm of Trilanco for over four decades, a business started by my parents, and I know the company will continue to grow under Anna and Richard’s stewardship.”
