Pets Choice has acquired Pettex Limited as from 6 April 2025, taking ownership of the Pettex Cat Litter and Small Animal business for an undisclosed sum.

According to Pets Choice, the acquisition is a strategic move that supports increased volumes through its Cardiff Cat Litter Plant allowing the group “to strengthen its position in the market”.

Pettex cat litter brands will be added to Pets Choice portfolio, which includes Webbox, Bob Martin, Felight, Tastybone, and B-Calm.

The acquisition will also mean customers and listings alike will benefit from Pets Choice’s distribution network, making Pettex Cat Litter and Small Animal products “more accessible” to all.

Additionally, the Pettex aquatic and reptile products will remain with the existing owners under a new company Pettex Aquatics Ltd.

The news comes as Pets Choice agreed to purchase Otodex, FormulaH, Conficlean2, Welpi and Cimicat from PetLife International Ltd to strengthen its product portfolio in the premium sector.

Tony Raeburn, CEO of Pets Choice, said:Another exciting acquisition that will compliment our existing portfolio and strengthen our cat litter offering.Even nicer that we have bought this great business from friends and where our families have been working together for generations.”

Steve Bolton, managing director of Pettex, added: “As a third-generation family business originally established in 1959 we are proud to have developed the Pettex cat litter brand but feel this is now the right time to hand over the reins to Tony and the Pets Choice team to take us onto the next level.

“This will also enable me to work with our great team and to expand our growing reptile and aquatic business which we will be continuing to develop as Pettex Aquatics.”
