Alternative pet food brands Omni Pet and Grub Club have been named on the Startups 100 index.

Plant-based dog food producer Omni Pet was ranked 25th on the list while insect-based food Grub Club was ranked 72nd.

Omni Pet was co-founded by celebrity vet Dr. Guy Sandelowsky, and prioritises health with high protein and high fibre recipes.

Since launching in 2020, Omni has sold over one million vegan meals, preventing 2,500 tonnes of CO2e emissions.

Backed by £1.5m in funding, the brand is set to hit £4m in revenue and expand internationally.

Furthermore, Grub Club was founded by Alessandro Di Trapani and Hugh Petit and replaces fish and meat in pet food with insects.

Certified as a B Corp, the company works with vets and educates customers about insect protein’s benefits, making it ideal for dogs with sensitivities.

After winning the £1m Sky Zero Footprint Fund in 2023, Grub Club debuted on TV in 2024 and aims to become the top sustainable pet food choice by 2025.

The Startups 100, run by Startups.co.uk, showcases the top 100 new UK businesses which exhibit “innovation, solid financials, opportunity in their market, a great concept and a strong customer base or following”.

Zohra Huda, editor of Startups.co.uk, said: “Good for your pet and the planet, what’s not to love about these high protein low CO2 emitting enterprises that are shaking up the canine nutrition sector, dogbowl by dogbowl? The Startups 100 Index for 2025 is proud to showcase ground-breaking companies like Grub Club and Omni Pet that put innovation and sustainability at the heart of their business model.”
