Manypets releases pet carbon calculator

Pet insurance provider Manypets has partnered with carbon measurement experts Supercritical to help pet owners combat their environmental impact.

The carbon pawprint calculator was designed to help pet owners measure how their pet contributes to emissions and how they can cut down.

The calculator combines data about what pets eat, how they travel and the other products they consume to come up with its advice.

Guy Farley, co-founder and CTO of Manypets, said “More than half of pet parents told us slowing climate change is very important to them and a third are already changing how they care for their pet to reduce their emissions. Our calculator simply helps pet owners understand their cat’s or dog’s emissions: it’s not designed to make you anxious or feel ashamed.

“We believe one of the first steps in tackling climate change is having the right information to do it. Everyone can play a part but we know companies and governments also have a huge responsibility and it shouldn’t feel like it’s just down to individuals.”

The two companies have also come up with a list of things all owners can do to cut emissions. These include; avoid beef or steak in your pets raw diet, choose dry food over raw, drive less by choosing closer walks and buy second hand accessories.
