Sainsbury’s Bank has announced the launch of a new brand of pet insurance which exclusively covers rabbits.

The new insurance policy will offer comprehensive lifetime cover, 24/7 vet assistance and a discount for Nectar members.

The bank’s venture into insurance for rabbits has been done to capitalise on them being the third most popular type of pets behind cats and dogs, according to the PDSA.

Rabbit owners, who take out coverage, will be able to access and manage their policy online via the digital platform, My Pet Portal.

Furthermore, Sainsbury’s Bank also provides multi-pet insurance, which allows customers to insure more than one pet, across cats, dogs and rabbits each month.

Jason King, customer director at Sainsbury’s Bank, said: “We’re pleased to broaden our pet insurance offering with the launch of our new rabbit insurance.

“With rabbits an increasingly popular pet in the UK, our lifetime pet insurance cover offers comprehensive cover for your cotton-tailed companions.”

He added: “You should make sure you’re shopping around to find the level of cover that’s right for your pet, and at the right price for you, to help cover any unexpected vet bills.”
