Omni launches meat-like vegan wet food range

The technology is being applied to create further meat and fish analogues such as lamb, turkey and salmon in the coming months

British Vegan pet food brand Omni has launched its first meat-like vegan dog food product.

The vet-formulated wet food range has been a year in the making with a patent pending, and currently consists of beef and chicken-style options, all supplemented with healthy vegetables.

Each flavour is available as a full “nutritionally-balanced” meal” or as a topper sachet to be added to a dry meal for extra taste, texture and nutritional value.

Omni founders, veterinary surgeon Dr. Guy Sandelowsky and ex-investment Banker, Shiv Sivakumar, have taken a science-backed, health first approach to the business – in which they work closely with Nottingham Vet School and various experts in the field of veterinary nutrition including those working closely with FEDIAF, the European regulator.

Omni wet foods are available from Omni’s website, and are priced at £4.50 for the 400g cans of No Beef Casserole or No Chicken Pot Pie and from £13.99 for eight 100g pouches of No-Beef Bites & No-Chick Chunks.

Dr Sandelowsky said: “Where previous plant-based wet pet foods have been quite mushy and stodgy, Omni’s Complete Dog Food uses proprietary technology to create meaty textures that set the range apart and give dogs the juicy and fibrous mouth feel they crave from their food. In just two weeks we have already had superb feedback and the range is flying out of the door.”.

“We know that our food system has to change to become healthier and more sustainable for the sake of the planet and future generations. This change will be driven by science led innovation, such as what we’re doing at Omni. With this range, we can deliver the exact nutrition and enjoyment without any animal agriculture and slaughter. I believe this is the future, and this is where the biggest opportunity lies in the £300 billion + global pet food market.”
