Royal Canin launches new products for hypoallergenic dogs

Anallergenic Small Dog is designed based on the existing Anallergenic canine dry adult formula but is now formulated for animals with an ideal adult body weight under 10 kg

Royal Canin has further tailored its nutritional offering for dogs with adverse food reactions, with the launch of two new products, the Royal Canin Hpoallergenic Puppy and the Royal Canin Ananllergenic Small Dog.

The Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Puppy supports growing puppies over six months of age, while Royal Canin Ananllergenic Small Dog is based on the original Anallergenic recipe to now meet the “unique” needs of small breed dogs.

Hypoallergenic Puppy includes calcium and phosphorus, which helps to meet “the nutritional needs of growing puppies”.

The diet also has the benefits of the Hypoallergenic Adult canine dry diet.

It aims to minimise risk of Adverse Food Reaction (AFR) thanks to a special formula based on a single hydrolysed protein source from soya origin, which is not amongst the “top known allergic protein sources for pets”.

Anallergenic Small Dog is designed based on the existing Anallergenic canine dry adult formula but is now formulated for animals with an ideal adult body weight under 10 kg.

The Anallegenic diet is recommended or used in dogs suffering from dermatological issues including Adverse Food Reactions (AFR) with dermatologic and/or gastro-intestinal signs, Canine Atopic Dermatitis (CAD) with underlying food allergy and food-responsive chronic enteropathies.

Royal Canin said that the Anallergenic Small Dog has a specially adapted formula to meet the “digestive needs of smaller dogs, and has additional dental benefits to help limit tartar formation with a kibble size and texture more suitable to the jaw size of small breed dogs”.

However, the pet food company recommended that dog owners take veterinary advice prior to starting any new therapeutic diet to ensure “it is appropriate for your individual pet, their unique circumstances, and to ensure they receive the very best level of care”.

Dr Lauren Hayes, scientific affairs manager at Royal Canin, said: “The launch of these two new diets is part of our ongoing mission to provide precise and individualised nutrition, so the right dog gets the right nutrition at the right time. This means our Hypoallergenic range has been expanded from 3 to 4 dry diet variations and 1 wet option, while expanding Anallergenic dog from 1 to 2 dry diet options.

“The newly launched Hypoallergenic Puppy means the unique dietary needs of growing puppies can be met at the same time as supporting those with adverse food reactions. Meanwhile, our Anallergenic diet has been newly adapted to meet the unique needs of dogs under 10kg with the launch of Anallergenic small dog.”
